Celebrate National Senior Health & Fitness Day at The Mews in Greenwich
Join us at The Mews in Greenwich on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, as we proudly participate in National Senior Health & Fitness Day, the nation’s largest health and wellness event for older adults! This special day, celebrated annually on the last Wednesday of May, is all about promoting the importance of physical activity, healthy living, and community connection for seniors. At The Mews, we’re excited to host an engaging event that aligns with our mission to enhance the lives of seniors through social, educational, and wellness-focused programs.
Event Details: A Day of Fitness and Fun
Our National Senior Health & Fitness Day event is designed to inspire and empower seniors to stay active, improve their well-being, and connect with others in the Greenwich community. Here’s what we have planned at The Mews, located at 1/2 Bolling Place, Greenwich, CT:
- Fall Prevention Class: The day will kick off with an informative and interactive session led by our expert instructors. This class will focus on practical strategies to reduce the risk of falls, a leading cause of injury among older adults. Participants will learn about balance, home safety, and techniques to stay steady on their feet. Falls are a significant concern for seniors, but with the right knowledge and practice, they can be prevented.
- Exercise Session: Following the fall prevention class, we’ll move into a fun and accessible exercise session tailored to seniors of all fitness levels. These exercises, inspired by evidence-based programs like those recommended by the National Council on Aging, will focus on improving strength, balance, and flexibility. Whether you’re a seasoned fitness enthusiast or just starting out, our instructors will ensure everyone feels comfortable and supported.
- Track Walk Across the Street: To wrap up the event, we’ll head across the street for a refreshing group walk around the local track. Walking is a low-impact, heart-healthy activity that promotes cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles, and boosts mood. This outdoor activity will also allow participants to enjoy the fresh air and connect with friends and neighbors in a relaxed, social setting.

Why National Senior Health & Fitness Day Matters
National Senior Health & Fitness Day, organized by the Mature Market Resource Center, encourages older adults to prioritize physical activity and healthy living. Regular exercise can help seniors maintain independence, reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes, and improve mental and emotional well-being. At The Mews, we believe that staying active is key to living a vibrant, fulfilling life, and we’re committed to providing programs that support this goal.
Falls are a particular concern for older adults, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noting that regular physical activity can significantly reduce fall risk by improving strength and balance. Our fall prevention class and exercise session are designed to address these needs, empowering seniors to move with confidence and stay safe.
