By the time you read this I will have
been the Director of the Mews for
nearly a year! In my very first article
for the Mews News I indicated how impressed I was with both residents and
staff in this community and thanked them for their warm welcome. Since then
and now as a member of this family I have come to realize how unique the
Mews is and how fortunate I am to be part of it.
Each morning I arrive I am greeted with smiles and can be found often
engaged in breakfast conversation. The day ends again in the dining room
with everyone bidding me farewell and once again engaged in conversation
occasionally resulting in me making “a mad dash” to catch the train! The hours
in between are filled with exercise, lectures, music, or monthly excursions
(Botanical Gardens, Bruce Museum, Island Beach, Tod’s Point). Birthdays are
celebrated together and there you can find staff dancing with residents.
From my desk I can hear daily the sounds of conversation and laughter
amongst residents and staff alike. As I enter the dining room to share lunch,
many residents are deep in conversation while others are assisting someone
to their seat or with their tray. Indeed the true essence of a community thrives
here daily.
As I watch the evening news upon my return home, more often than not
depicting the divisiveness nationally and internationally, I find comfort to know
there are places like the Mews where fellowship prevails.
